LEAD Grants Workshop

LEAD Grants writing workshop with Kate from Our Community

On the 16th of September JAA ran another successful workshop as part of our leadership council, this time on grant writing. JAA’s LEAD (Leadership, Empowerment and Development) program supports leaders from the Darfur and Nuba Mountains communities through the facilitation of monthly skills workshops. With ongoing consultation with the community leaders, we focus on providing training required to effectively run their organisations, communicate their cause and support their wider communities. Running their communities in a new country poses continual challenges and based on a long friendship, JAA is privileged to be able to provide the opportunities to gain the skills required to fill their roles and responsibilities and support their community members.

Following on from workshops by David Southwick MP, on understanding the government infrastructure, Nina Bassat from JCCV on the role of a community leader and Judith Field from Direct Speech on public speaking, we welcomed Kate Caldecott, Executive Director of the Australian Institute of Grants Management (AIGM) from Our Community to teach us the tricks of grant writing. Kate went through the many practical tips and techniques and supported everyone to begin to develop their project ideas. We are excited to have Kate stay on board now to continue to provide us with the necessary advice on what grants are available and how the leaders can compile a successful submission for their own community.
